Your wedding dress is one of the most special garments you will ever wear. At Bridal Brilliance, we take great care to ensure every gown leaves our boutique in perfect condition.

However, knowing how to look after your dress before, during, and after your wedding day will help keep it looking beautiful from the moment you put it on to long after the celebrations end.

Here are our top tips for caring for your wedding dress.

The Night Before Your Wedding

In the lead up to your big day, your gown can remain safely stored in its bridal garment bag. However, we recommend taking your dress out and hanging it at least one day before the wedding.

Hanging your dress with the train extended allows any small creases from storage or transport to naturally relax and fall out. Choose a safe place where the dress can hang freely without being crowded by other garments.

A few helpful tips:

  • Hang your dress somewhere cool and dry.
  • Make sure the train is laid out or hanging fully to avoid creases.
  • Keep it away from pets, food, or anything that could cause stains.

Giving your dress time to breathe the day before your wedding helps ensure it looks its absolute best when it's time to get ready.

Caring for Your Dress on the Wedding Day

Wedding dresses often feature delicate details such as beading, lace, straps, buttons, hook-and-eye closures, and bustle systems. While every precaution is taken to ensure your gown is perfectly prepared, these delicate elements should be handled with care throughout the day.

We recommend preparing a small bridal emergency kit with a few essentials:

  • Needle and thread
  • Safety pins
  • Baby wipes for small stains or makeup marks

Baby wipes are especially useful for gently removing minor marks that may occur during photos or throughout the celebrations.

Your bridal party can also help by lifting the train when moving between locations or walking across grass or gravel to prevent damage.

After the Wedding: Cleaning Your Dress

After your wedding, it's important to have your gown cleaned as soon as possible to remove invisible stains such as champagne, perfume, makeup, or perspiration. These stains can become more difficult to remove over time.

We highly recommend using Regal Drycleaners for professional wedding dress cleaning.

In some cases, gowns may also be suitable for gentle hand washing with a mild detergent. If you are unsure whether this is safe for your particular gown, please contact us first and we will happily advise you.

Proper cleaning will help preserve your gown whether you plan to:

  • keep it as a special heirloom
  • repurpose it in the future
  • or simply store it safely as a cherished memory.
